I am concerned that moralism seduces many evangelical Christians.  The most common way is through politics and politicians.  The latest in a long line of politicians using Christians and the gospel to achieve their goals is Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck.  Palin and Beck are dangerous because they speak of many values that Christ-followers rightly treasure.  They are dangerous because they speak of these morals and values apart from Christ.  They believe and preach that we can be good and moral apart from Christ.  They are advocating works righteousness.  They are advocating a Christless ‘Christianity.’

I am advocating that we get beyond the ‘God and country’ rhetoric of the right and the ‘social justice without the gospel’ of the left.  Both have good elements to them, but, they are devoid of the gospel message of Christ crucified and raised from the dead.  Morality without Christ would make Screwtape proud and is rampant amongst church-goers.

Russell Moore has some interesting thoughts on the latest ‘political/religious revival’ involving Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin.

“Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.”
